Event details

AGORADA is the annual conference organised since 1992 by EURADA, the European Association of Development Agencies. It was created 30 years ago in 1992, and its main activities during these decades have been to facilitate the exchange of experiences, promote the recognition of development agencies and the design and implementation of territorial development programmes, especially for SMEs.

AGORADA is the annual meeting point of regional development practitioners. They create and maintain a network of Regional Development Agencies, helping them connect and work together in activities related to their common interests. Members of EURADA get inspiration and ideas from one another by sharing best practices and successful policies to implement in their respective regions.
The event will be celebrated on the upcoming 7th and 8th of June. This year, though, we are making it a big one, since it marks the 30th anniversary both of our association and the event. Moreover, this year's event will be co-organised alongside the French Federation of Economic Development Agencies (CNER), which is celebrating its 70th anniversary. In France, the first economic expansion committees were created during the 1940s by local socio-economic circles, to overcome the difficult political transitions and foster reconstruction. Expansion committees multiplied after the Second World War, and in 1952 they regrouped in the National Conference of Regional Study Committees for the Development of France. The National Conference of Regional Study Committees for the Development of France held its first congress in Reims in 1952, on an emblematic and recurring theme: "Regions and spatial planning".

This year's event will hold activities such as a site visit to the A6K Engineering Centre in Charleroi*, a general assembly for our members, or a full day in the European Committee of the Regions with conferences to discuss new challenges regarding politics and regional economic development. Some of the topics debated at the conferences will be big data and artificial intelligence, finance of companies or inclusive economic development
Among our speakers, we will have Christian Saublens, former director of EURADA; Tania Hristova, Member of the CoR and Mayor of Gabrovo Municipality in Bulgaria;  Mikel Landabaso, Director of Growth and Innovation at the Joint Research Center of the European Commission; Rafael Escamilla, Secretary-General at Foro ADR (Spain); and Nathan Ohle, President & CEO at International Economic Development Council (IEDC).

We expect this event to serve as an occasion to gather new ideas and inspiration for the future of regional development and further debate how we should organise ourselves to be more competitive and have a more inclusive society.
