Scope of the meeting

This Working Group (WG) on Smart Heritage Cities held its kicked-off meeting last November 2020.  The WG is a high-level discussion group aiming to gather experts and practitioners to share knowledge on the topics of smart cities and communities in cultural heritage areas. This first meeting had a significant number of participants with city representatives and experts from Italy, Portugal, Netherlands, Germany, Turkey, Malta, Romania, Lebanon, Austria and France.

Following the survey results of the kick-off meeting, the second WG meeting will prioritise issues related to funding. In particular, the session is entitled “EU Funding and other Financing Resources for Smart Innovation in Historical Cities” and will feature Mr Rui Barroso, from DECSIS, who will talk about Funding and Financing Models for Cities. Specifically, he will provide examples of innovation projects developed from his city experience as well as examples of regional funding projects on the modernization of the public sector, regional infrastructure funding on broadband, and energy efficiency fund EEEF example in Alentejo Central. His presentation will be complemented by Mr José Miguel Costa, from the POCITYF consortium, who will discuss Horizon Europe funding opportunities for cities. Furthermore, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about their fellow audience allowing for further interaction and networking.
